Spectral Discrimination of Pumice Rafts in Optical MSI Imagery

چکیده

Pumice rafts are considered to be a long-range drifting agent that promotes material exchange and the dispersal of marine species. Large ones can also interfere with vessel navigation have negative impact on social economy ecosystems. Synoptic observations from Multispectral Instrument (MSI) on-board Sentinel-2, spatial resolution up 10 m, provide an excellent means monitor track pumice rafts. In this study, use Spectral-Feature-Based Extraction (SFBE) algorithm automatically discriminate extract ocean surface submarine volcano eruptions was proposed. Specifically, Raft Index (PRI) developed based spectral signatures in MSI imagery identify potential features. After pre-processing, PRI image then subjected series per-pixel object-based processes rule out false-positive detections, including shallow water, striped edges, mudflats, cloud edges. The SFBE showed performance extracting successfully applied near Fiji Yasawa islands 2019 Hunga Tonga island 2022, overall extraction accuracy 95.5% proportion pixels mis-extracted as <3%. robustness has been tested proved through applying it data comparing its output results previous studies. timely accurate detection using proposed here is expected important information aid response actions ecological assessments, will lead better understanding fate pumice.

Separability Analysis of Sentinel-2A Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) Data for Burned Area Discrimination

Biomass burning is a global phenomenon and systematic burned area mapping is of increasing importance for science and applications. With high spatial resolution and novelty in band design, the recently launched Sentinel-2A satellite provides a new opportunity for moderate spatial resolution burned area mapping. This study examines the performance of the Sentinel-2A Multi Spectral Instrument (MS...

On the fate of pumice rafts formed during the 2012 Havre submarine eruption

Pumice rafts are floating mobile accumulations of low-density pumice clasts generated by silicic volcanic eruptions. Pumice in rafts can drift for years, become waterlogged and sink, or become stranded on shorelines. Here we show that the pumice raft formed by the impressive, deep submarine eruption of the Havre caldera volcano (Southwest Pacific) in July 2012 can be mapped by satellite imagery...

Discrimination of spectral density.

Experiments were performed to determine the ability of human listeners to discriminate between a sound with a large number of spectral components in a band, of given characteristic frequency and bandwidth, and a sound with a smaller number of components in that band. A pseudorandom placement of the components within the band ensured that no two sounds were identical. The data suggested that dis...

Pumice-pumice collisions and the effect of the impact angle

[1] Using a high-speed video camera, we studied oblique collisions of lapilli-size pumice cylinders (with no rotation before impact) on flat pumice targets. Our results show that the rebound angle, the ratios of the components of velocities and the energy loss vary with the impact angle. In particular, in collisions with an average yaw angle approximately equal to zero, we observed relatively l...

Visual discrimination of spectral distributions.

Human observers seem to be able to use different features that classify materials with a large degree of accuracy. In this paper, we look at human perception of statistical properties of the spectral distribution in a scene. We investigated whether human observers can discriminate just as accurately between coloured textures that have a spectral distribution due either to shading only or to bot...
